Open kits
How open kit records keep a physical kit identity while exact components are resolved during picking.

What an open kit is
An open kit is a kit-like loadout that starts from a blueprint but does not lock specific component assets ahead of time. It is meant for warehouse groups where the company knows the shape of the package, but the picker chooses the exact serialized items during fulfillment. A box of LED panels, a wagon of folding tables, or a case that should contain eight matching fixtures are good examples.
That makes an open kit different from an assigned kit. An assigned kit already has exact component assets attached to the kit record, so the same physical kit can be scanned, rented, returned, inspected, and maintained as one known unit. An open kit should still use a blueprint, but the exact assets remain flexible until picking.
Creating one
Create open kits from Inventory -> Kits by switching to the Open kits tab and choosing New open kit. You can also right-click a kit blueprint and choose Create open kit. The record still needs a blueprint, Asset ID, warehouse, and status because it is a real physical kit record in inventory.
The component list comes from the blueprint and is shown as expected contents. Unlike assigned kits, those rows do not ask you to select exact serialized assets during creation. That is intentional: the open kit exists so the warehouse can identify the group now and resolve the actual contents later.
Picking and resolving
The intended picking experience is that the warehouse sees what the open kit expects, scans matching assets into it, and can tell whether the group is complete before dispatch. The open kit record carries the identity of the box, cart, or loadout. The picked assets carry the proof of what actually left the warehouse.
Keep the distinction clear when building orders. A prebuild is an order preset, a bundle is an order-building suggestion, an assigned kit is a physical kit with known contents, and an open kit is a physical kit whose exact contents are resolved at fulfillment time.
