Choosing the right label workflow
Pluck has a few label workflows because the thing being printed changes the data available to the template. Specific asset labels are tied to existing serialized item records, so they can use item fields, type fields, warehouse fields, company fields, and system values. Type labels are tied to inventory type records, so they use type-level fields and company/system values. Generic Asset ID sheets are different: they are preprinted identifiers for items that do not exist in Pluck yet.
When you are printing from Inventory -> Items, use the asset-label workflow for known serialized assets and use the generic Asset ID workflow when you are preparing a sheet of IDs before the physical assets have been entered. When you are printing from Inventory -> Types or Bulk, use type-label printing when the label should identify a model, category, or stock type rather than a single physical asset. The template picker should only show templates that make sense for the workflow, which is why an item-only asset tag should not appear as the default for type labels.
Opening print preview
Print preview is the checkpoint between choosing labels and sending anything to the printer. It should show the selected sheet, label count, first printed value, starting position, and whether a run will continue onto additional sheets. If the preview does not match the intended workflow, go back to the print dialog before using label stock.
Images, fonts, QR codes, and barcodes need time to render before the browser print dialog opens. The Print button in the preview should wait for those assets, then call the browser print dialog. Browsers may offer a “Print using system dialog” option, but web apps cannot force that operating-system dialog directly. For physical labels, keep browser scaling at 100 percent and avoid print settings that resize the sheet.
